Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was convicted of plotting a government overthrow in September and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under home detention pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.

This encompassed trying to remove his ankle monitor and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a document approving the arrest, the judge said intelligence from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's aim to disable the tracking monitor to ensure success in his flight.
